New Vanpool Program

Coming Soon! UCR's New Vanpool Program

UCR has contracted with Enterprise Rideshare to provide our campus with a state of the art vanpool program. Riders will enjoy the benefit of newer model vans typically switched out every 60,000 miles, along with roadside assistance if needed. UCR currently has 23 vanpools serving 19 cities. “The new program has the potential for putting a lot of vans on the road,” said Tara Pueschel, UCR’s transportation demand management specialist. “Each vanpool frees up 6 – 8 parking spaces, helps with parking congestion on campus, and improves air quality.”

The new program also gives TAPS’ Alternative Transportation the ability to quickly serve new routes, support to maintain and grow the program, and leverages Enterprise’s assets as they are a nation-wide rideshare provider. Cost, which is split between vanpool riders, is based on van size, how many people are in the van, and distance traveled. An average monthly cost estimate is $100 - $140 per rider paid using pre-tax dollars through payroll deduction.

TAPS is currently transitioning existing vanpools to the new program through October, with service expanding to the Intellicenter in November. To learn more about this exciting new program and its many features, contact Tara Pueschel, TDM Specialist, at or x 2-7433.

Getting Ready for UCPath: The Path to the Future

UCPath will bring UC's payroll, benefits, and HR systems up-to-date. Many dedicated BAS staffers have been working diligently to help shape the new system. When the process is complete in January, the paychecks of ALL UCR employees will be issued using the system. Keep an eye out for messages regarding "The Path to the Future," as they will provide you with the necessary information you need as we prepare to "go-live" at UCR.

Did you know the survey includes a section dedicated to customer service recognition?

Our 2017 Client Satisfaction Survey closes soon. If you haven't done so already, please complete your survey and encourage your colleagues and clients to complete theirs, too! The feedback we receive is extremely important for our organization and helps guide planning and direction for the coming year. We need to know if we're getting it right and encourage suggestions for how we can make our services even better!

Every Wednesday is R’ Day at UC Riverside!

As part of the Highlander Spirit and Traditions Initiative, R’ Day is a campaign for students, staff, and faculty to share their Highlander Spirit by wearing R’ Gear. R'Gear is any UCR apparel or accessories given out by university departments or purchased at the Campus Store. Wearing our school colors (blue and gold) is another great way to participate in R’ Day. Be creative and show your Highlander Pride!

UCR's Social and Collaborative Network for Staff

UCR is using Yammer as a social networking tool that allows staff to easily connect with colleagues across campus to share information, expertise, and ideas. If you haven’t done so already, VC Coley encourages you to consider using Yammer to communicate, collaborate, and innovate!  Once your membership has been established, be sure to explore the many groups at UCR that are already engaged in networking and collaboration. UCR's Collaborative Leadership group is one group that VC Coley highly recommends.

Dear BAS Colleagues,

As we begin the new academic year surrounded by the energy and excitement of students filled with hope and possibility, I am reminded that each of us plays an important role in helping them achieve their dreams. I am also reminded of the mission of UC Riverside, "to transform the lives of the diverse people of California, the nation, and the world through the discovery, communication, translation, application and preservation of knowledge - thereby enriching the state's economic, social, cultural, and environmental future" (UCR 2020). I cannot think of a greater purpose to serve.

I think of the university as a building supported by many strong pillars. It takes the strength of these pillars to support our great university's teaching, research, public service, and patient care mission. BAS is one of the pillars. Each of us as a member of this organization, is an important part of the strength of our pillar. We don't often think of ourselves in this way as we set about on our daily routines, but the support and services that we provide to our students, faculty, and staff colleagues allows the University's incredibly important work to be accomplished.

I trust that you have completed your Client Satisfaction Survey and have been asking your clients to do the same. If you haven't yet had the chance, please remember that our survey is closing soon and you won't want to miss this opportunity to highlight a service or colleague that you found to be exceptional this past year or offer feedback and suggestions if you experienced a service or area in need of improvement.

Please join me in thanking TAPS Director Irma Henderson and her staff for bringing the new Enterprise Rideshare vanpool program to UCR. This new approach saves UC resources in that we are no longer having to purchase and maintain university vans, and provides riders with safe comfortable vehicles and enhanced program features.
